Connection scheme for 40G QSFP+SR4 optical module and 10G SFP+SR4 optical module
2024-11-19
Today, I will talk about the connection scheme between 40G QSFP+SR4 optical modules equipped with MPO interfaces and 10G SFP+SR optical modules equipped with LC interfaces, and explore how to effectively achieve network upgrade and replacement strategies between these two different specifications of optical modules.
40G QSFP+and 10G SFP+optical module direct connection solution
To directly connect a 40G QSFP+optical module with a 10G SFP+optical module, a fiber optic jumper with 8-core MPO to LC duplex branching function is usually used. This method forms the simplest connection path between the two, especially suitable for short distance data transmission scenarios.

40G QSFP+and 10G SFP+Optical Module Interconnection Solution
When two optical modules are interconnected, it will result in an increase in the number of fiber jumpers required and an increase in wiring complexity. To optimize cable management and achieve higher density cabling layout, we can use a 1U specification 96 core high-density fiber optic distribution box (which can accommodate up to 4 boxes with 24 core MPO pre terminated modules). Among them, QSFP+optical modules are connected through MPO backbone optical cables, while SFP+optical modules are connected using LC duplex fiber jumpers.
This connection method allows for device replacement at both ends of the fiber optic link.

In the connection configuration, QSFP+optical modules and SFP+optical modules are connected through MPO backbone fiber jumpers and MPO-LC branch fiber jumpers, respectively. In order to realize the connection between the two, MPO adapter panel strip is used in the middle part, and MPO backbone optical cable is used as the bridge. However, due to the fact that the SFP+optical module ports are limited to the same chassis, a major drawback of this configuration scheme is the reduced flexibility of the SFP+optical module end, which means that fiber access devices cannot be replaced arbitrarily at this end.

Cross connection solution for 40G QSFP+and 10G SFP+optical modules
By using MPO backbone fiber jumpers, MPO to LC duplex fibers, and LC duplex fiber jumpers, we can construct a connection system. During the connection process, the adapter panel and module box serve as a bridge, making it possible to meet transmission requirements of different lengths or connect different cabinets.

There are various interconnection methods between MPO interface optical modules and LC interface optical modules, and the detailed wiring method depends on the actual application and network wiring environment.
